Principal Message

Established in 1910, Tempy Primary School is a small school located in the beautiful Mallee region of Northwest Victoria. We strongly believe in the importance of building positive relationships between teachers, students, families and the wider community.

Our school operates a ‘stage not age’ model which caters for the unique learning needs of each of our students. During our daily English and Mathematics lessons, we operate from two classrooms with two full-time teachers. Students are routinely assessed to monitor learning progress and to allow for teachers to plan for the individualised learning and wellbeing needs of every student. Specialist classes which include the Arts, Health and Physical Education, Humanities, Science and LOTE are offered from Prep to Grade Six.

We aim to provide an enjoyable, safe and caring environment that develops values to assist our students to participate effectively in wider society. Our school is fortunate to have the services of a Chaplain for three full days per week who offers whole class, small group and individual wellbeing support. Our Chaplain works closely with teaching staff to assist in the delivery of the Resilience, Rights and respectful Relationships curriculum as well as the Smiling Minds program to all students from P-6. The Better Buddies program is also implemented across the school with each student allocated a buddy for the entirety of the school year.

Outdoor activities are part of our daily routine and include physical education, gardening and environmental studies. Additional activities include camps, performances, excursions, cultural events and visiting specialists. Our program is enhanced through the participation with neighbouring schools in combined sports, swimming, cultural activities and camps. Our active participation in the Top Paddock small rural schools’ group engages our staff in professional learning, as well as providing a wellbeing support. The school has continued to focus on creating and maintaining links with community bodies such as the Southern Mallee Landcare Network and Parks Victoria.
